People are more industrious when they are able to enjoy the benefits created by their own efforts. Taxation reduces those benefits and limits our liberty to use our abilities to enrich our own lives. We need less taxation and more economy in government, instead of more government interference in the market place and private sector economy.

Julia Allen is running for the District 20 House seat

Walk-in absentee voting starts today at Honolulu Hale (City Hall) in Downtown Honolulu. The Honolulu Hale location will be open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday. Voters will have until Saturday, October 30 to cast absentee ballots.

Mail in absentee ballots have also been sent out. Please cast your vote and mail those ballots back.

General Election voting day is Tuesday, November 2. Your polling place may have changed. However if you voted in the primary election, that polling place is the same as it was on September 18. The Hawaii State Office of Elections provides a page where you can find your polling place by either typing in your name and birthdate, or using the drop down menu to find your precinct. The link to that page is: http://elections3.hawaii.gov/ppl/.

Sample ballots in PDF form are also available after you find your polling place online. It is recommended that you download and study the sample ballot before casting your vote. There are numerous other candidates running for various offices as well as two constitutional amendment questions and a number of city charter amendments that require a decision by the voters. It is best to review these beforehand. A vote for Julia Allen will be greatly appreciated.

Taxpayer Protection Pledge

“I, Julia Allen, pledge to the taxpayers of the 20th House District of the State of Hawaii and to all the people of this state, that I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.”

While I am still not listed as to have signing the pledge, I certainly did before a crowd at the January 2010 SBH Sunrise with former Congressman Dick Armey of Freedomworks as my witness. The tax pledge is coordinated in Hawaii by the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii.

The pledge is a nationwide campaign set by Americans for Tax Reform. From their website:

“In the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, candidates and incumbents solemnly bind themselves to oppose any and all tax increases. While ATR has the role of promoting and monitoring the Pledge, the Taxpayer Protection Pledge is actually made to a candidate’s constituents, who are entitled to know where candidates stand before sending them to the capitol. Since the Pledge is a prerequisite for many voters, it is considered binding as long as an individual holds the office for which he or she signed the Pledge.”

“Shall the powers, duties, and functions of the city, through its director of transportation services, include establishment of a steel rail transit system?” VOTE NO on this ballot question. Honolulu taxpayers cannot afford to foot the $7 billion bill to pay for rail. If the charter amendment passes, Honolulu taxpayers will see a drastic property tax increase.
